I trained with Julie throughout my first pregnancy and had a wonderful experience. Initially I sought her out for strength training because my goal was to maintain my strength throughout pregnancy, but I ended up learning so much about my body and specifically my pelvic floor as well. The breathing techniques I learned served me so well during labor. I felt very prepared and attribute so much of that to the labor prep I did with Julie. One of my friends is currently pregnant, and I described my work with Julie as one of the best things I did to prepare. Strong Body Strong Mama was so incredibly helpful! Julie is very knowledgeable, personable and accessible. My only regrets is that I didn’t find her sooner in my pregnancy. It would have been such a gift to have that kind of support and tips from the very beginning. I learned a lot of information, all of which I used during our birthing process. I also signed up for Julie’s postpartum group and yet again, wasn’t disappointed. She really explains why building certain muscles first is so important in the recovery process and tells us how to do it. I’ve learned so much about the physiology of exercise when it comes to pregnancy from someone who is an expert in the area (Strong Body Strong Mama Julie Leonard you rock!) She has helped me to learn so much about my body and this process and to think about the long-term effects and not just how much I feel like I can accomplish while still pregnant. Ladies- pregnancy is unique. You will be thankful if you take the time to learn from someone who knows how to cater and teach just what your body is going through. Don’t settle for the standard workouts when your body needs more focused attention.

I found Julie through a mutual friend and from the first assessment, I knew she was exactly what I needed. She identified that my breathing was in my chest instead of diaphragmatic and everything she taught me complimented my previous training! Fast forward to birth day when labor was significantly shorter and I was able to incorporate all of the breathing and opening techniques. A nurse mentioned that it was the most controlled birth she’s seen in 23 years!

To be honest, this is really the first time I knew about the inner workings and importance of strengthening and this was my third child! I have always been a runner and gotten right back into things after birth, which absolutely (in retrospect) was not always the best idea. I learned so much about the importance of self-care this time around and listening to my body (not the drill sergeant that tends to be in my head!).  Julie was knowledgeable yet relatable – she talked in a way that really helped me visualize and understand my body and the changes that pregnancy brings on.
